What is STOTT Pilates?
Pilates was created in the 1920’s by German athlete, Joseph Pilates. He focused on rehabilitation and functionality of movement. Moria Merithew created STOTT Pilates from the original exercises with a more contemporary approach focusing on scientific research to improve posture and to create a safe, challenging, and revitalizing workout.

Pilates training is a series of core strengthening exercises designed to help clients’ look and feel great. These exercises will encourage muscle balance around the joints, improved breathing, and ease of movement. Respected by fitness and health practitioners worldwide, STOTT Pilates is focused on developing the safest and most effective programming available. STOTT Pilates focuses on optimal musculoskeletal performance – strength, flexibility, and endurance – without risking injury or building bulk.

Equipment:

Reformer - The unique spring resistance of this machine helps generate smooth muscular contractions that develop strength without bulk. The professional reformer is suitable for all types of clients.

V2Max - The V2Max has a retractable rope system and an infinite adjustable vertical frame with movable rope pulleys and spring hooks to add variety and challenge or assist clients while performing an exercise.

Chair - The Stability Chair helps rebalance muscles and provides a full-body workout. It also facilitates high-performance exercises for athletes and the very fit.

Ladder Barrel - Designed for core conditioning and to increase flexibility, the Ladder Barrel challenges core stability and strength for clients from beginners to the fully conditioned.

Mat Tools - Multiple tools used in mat classes add variety and challenge to matwork routines. These tools develop muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility while targeting specific muscle groups.

What to expect, wear, and bring to your training session:
1. Whether you're doing mat or reformer Pilates, wear comfortable workout cloths that do not restrict your movement. You do not need to wear special shoes as these exercises are done in socks or barefoot.
2. Bring a water bottle.
3. All equipment is provided.
4. Mat: Check the schedule for any essential, mat plus, or ball mania workout. Including a mat workout along with your reformer and cycling training provides a well rounded fitness program.
5. Reformer: Before participating in any Pilates training, every participant must schedule an orientation to discuss fitness goals and to be introduced to the basic principles of STOTT Pilates. After you receive your consultation, we require each participant to schedule 5 private or semi-private sessions.
6. Sign up is required for the group classes to reserve a reformer. If the class is full, you may sign up for the wait list and be notified if a reformer would become available.
